news-letter

Dear Customer,

The auDA Board recently announced their decision to accept direct registrations in .au domains, for example yourname.au instead of yourname.com.au. The introduction of direct registrations will allow users to register shorter, more memorable domain names and offer Australians more choice in domain registrations.

A comprehensive policy development process is currently underway to determine the best approach to the regulations for registering .au. auDA will also be considering the protection of existing registrants, for example whether the registrant of yourname.com.au will have priority for yourname.au. This has been the case in similar instances of direct registration overseas and may also apply for .au.

While the process is yet to be finalised, we recommend our customers register the .com.au and/or .net.au of their domains in order to have peace of mind in knowing that this could potentially give them priority in protecting their domains for direct .au registration.
